THE OUTLOOK FOR SOMEDAY - SHORT FILM CHALLENGE

  TVNZ presents The Outlook for Someday - The Sustainability Film challenge for Young People.

Make a short film, on any camera you like, any genre you like, any length up to 5 minutes, anyone up to the age of 24 can enter.

GENERAL ELECTIONS - YOUR CHANCE TO VOTE
Are you 18 or over? This year you've got the chance to vote in the 2011 General Election on Saturday 26 November, when you get to vote for a local politician to represent you in Parliament, and for the political party you want to lead the country.

You also get to vote in the Referendum taking place at the same time as the General Election.

YOUTH VS. COUNCILLOR quiz night
Check out the info below to find out how young people are stepping up to have their say against the city's councillors - quiz style! Young versus Old - who will win?
The Youth Week quiz was held on Monday 23 May with over 40 people taking part from the city’s secondary schools, Bay Young Professionals, Merivale Community Centre, TCC ‘youth’ staff and TCC Councillors.
 
After seven gruelling rounds the first prize was awarded to the Merivale Community Centre’s Southern Pipelines team who took out both bonus rounds and won by a staggering ten point lead.

Thanks to everyone involved.

PS - the TCC councillors City Slickers team went home in a comfortable fifth place - with extra points being rewarded for their team rendition of Engelbert Humperdinck’s classic NZ song Ten Guitars.
 

ANNUAL PLAN 2011-2012
  The Annual Plan is Council's budget for the next year (July 2011 through to June 2012). It includes all of the projects and activities that Council is going to be working on and how much everything is going to cost.

People have had their say on the draft version of the Annual Plan and Councillors have discussed all of the submissions made by the public.

TECT ARENA AT BAYPARK 
 What is it?...
  • It is a new nine court (six court + three court spaces) indoor centre situated beside the outdoor stadium at Baypark
  • It will cater primarily for community sports – then exhibitions and other functions such as awards/corporate events (the centre includes a stage area, seating for 3000 people, meeting rooms, kitchen and other amenities)
  • It will replace an older, less fit-for-purpose facility at the Mount Action Centre

What will the new facility do?...

  • It will become a hub for community sport, entertainment and youth events- supporting the greater western
    Bay of Plenty
  • It will allow the sub-region to meet the demand for community sport
  • It will cater for existing, and potentially attract new, forms of entertainment to the region

TECT All Terrain Park
This park is currently being developed. The park is to be opened up over the next 5-20 years and will cater for all sorts of activities including:
  • Mountain biking
  • Archery
  • 4x4, trial and trail bikes
  • Firearm sports
  • Motorcross and quad bikes
  • Car rallying
  • Equestrian
  • Tramping and orienteering

The Park is situated off State Highway 36 (the main road between Tauranga and Rotorua which runs through Pyes Pa) – 29kms from Tauranga.

This project is a Western Bay of Plenty District Project that includes funding from Tauranga City Council but no matter where you live, it will definitely be worth the drive!
